Community Service

An important life-lesson for students to learn is the value of giving back to their community. Doing a volunteer or service project will open students eyes to the needs in the community, how volunteering will benefit the community, and working together with a group to reach a common goal. The Look Up Center is a great place to volunteer and they are dedicated to meeting the needs of families struggling in the Newark and Licking County area. One could also go to the the Salvation Army food kitchen, or join the Adopt a Highway program to make our world cleaner.

Always be Prepared

Just an added bonus! sometimes it is difficult to plan a field trip, and in the chaos of getting everything together and finding chaperones, the proper preparation before the field trip can often be forgotten. this article gives great tips and insight into different ways to increase the effectiveness of a field trip.

Remembering the Fight

Our freedom has come at a price, and many have dedicated their lives to protecting it. Mott's Military Museum has dedicated their establishment to "educate the public on the importance of America's military past through the documentation, collection, interpretation, and preservation of tangible artifacts and personal stories of the men and women who served and are serving in the United States." Just Southeast of Columbus, Ohio, this location has the following exhibits available for viewing: 1776, Civil War, World War I, World, War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, NASA, Medals,POW Exhibit, Ronald E. Rosser, Paul W. Tibbets, Eddie Rickenbacker, The Tuskegee Airmen, and 9/11 Artifacts. As you can see, Mott's Military Museum is a great field trip option for history classes, especially around 9/11 or Veteran's Day. Admission for students is only three dollars per person and adults cost five dollars.

Get Fit!

Health is a subject that should not be overlooked, and after students learn about the importance of a healthy diet and how being active benefits both the mind and the body, it is best to allow them to get out and experience it first hand. Skyzone offers a unique opportunity to get out all of the energy children have, and for toddlers, it is at the low cost of ten dollars per student! Be sure to have a waiver filled out by each parent prior to your adventure. This is also a great field trip choice if the students are learning about gravity in science! Grab their attention with this "defying gravity science activity", which I have demonstrated in the video below.
